Logging Scene with Hoist Cabinet Card - Remains To Be Seen

Cabinet Card Showing a Hoist Off Kenton, Mich., 1898: Kenton, Michigan, is located in Houghton County, and was a station on the Duluth, South Shore & Atlantic Railroad. When the stand of white pine, as evidenced here in the river, was exhausted, the community turned to farming. The photographer is identified as Landis, of Jonesville, Mich., which is located in Hillsdale County in the Lower Peninsula. The inscription on the reverse reads: Compliments of Miss Clara Coon, Kenton, Mich., Oct. 22, 1898 – Antone Jilek, Harris Hoist off Kenton, Mich., From July 6, 1898, to Nov. 13, 1898. There are a number of log structures on one side of the river and logs floating in the river.
