Ellen Terry (1847-1928) was an English actress who became one of the most popular stage performers in both Great Britain and North America. For twenty-four years she worked as the leading lady of Sir Henry Irving in one of the most famous partnerships in the theater. In the 1890s she began a famous correspondence with George Bernard Shaw. Her parents, Ben and Sarah Terry, and her sisters, Kate and Marion, were all well-known actors in their own right.
