Large albumen of a Pach Brothers Harvard vs. Yale Football game held at Jarvis field in November, 1890. The image measures 13-1/4" x 9-3/4" on a 12-1/2" x 14-1/4" mount. On the lower left on the mount is printed "Pach Bros." and on the lower right "935 B'way, N.Y." In period hand at the top inscribed is "94 / Harvard vs. Yale" and in the same hand on the bottom "Jarvis Field Nov 29, 1890". Minor, light staining on the mount, otherwise fine condition. This is a superior image by well-respected New York photographers. The game was actually held one week before the above date. Harvard was undefeated (11-0-0) while Yale's record was (13-1-0). The score of this game was Harvard 12 - Yale 6 and one of Harvard's first victories in several years over Yale.
The real significance of this game is that it helped determine the national championship that season. Yale coach Walter Camp helped invent what evolved into the modern game of football.
